a horse having an ultrasound its not very plesent they stick the xray thing up the horses *** and into the uterus to see the baby i asked why they dont just run it on there belly and they said you get a better veiw this way i saw this because we own a farm and we had a breed horse and please dont get mad at me thats just how they do it

Yes and cattle are checked the same way. There isn't a strong enough signal to tell accurately from the outside especially for early detection. It's also more accurate than palpation alone. The probe sits above the uterus not in it.

Ultrasounds can be administered to humans in the same manner. Typically a vaginal scan is performed when the developing baby is under 12 weeks old, as it is too small to get very useful readings from an external scan.

uhh well first of all, you go "into the uterus" from the butt. the rectum sits on top of the uterus, and it affords the vet a better view of the baby....its probably more uncomfortable for the momma horse to go through than for you to watch.
BUT its the best way to make sure the little foal is doing okay.
at least its not YOUR hand up a horses butt!! l

Don't worry if people get mad at you. You ain't doing nothing wrong. And that ain't really a squeamish thing I don't think. I helped my pet goat with delivering her babies. Now that was a bloody icky mess but at the same time it was so cool to witness and assist her in doing this and then helping her clean 'em up and dry 'em and stuff.

Why should anybody get mad at you? That is how they do it. Another way a vet checks if a mare is pregnant is to lube up his arm and insert it in the mare's anus, and goes all the way up past his elbow to feel whether there is a foal in her uterus. Gross but necessary.

Have you ever seen the TV show "Dirty Jobs"? One time they showed how to check horses to see if they are pregnant. They stick their arm up the horses A$$ to fell the uterus. It was pretty gross.

I have seen lots of them, i think it is fascinating to be able to watch a fetus' heartbeat. I was able to see my foal at 48 days of life! It was so COOL!!!!!
