I want to buy a IPOD or mp3 player that would have good sound, the video must be clear - not slow or blurred and one that would last for at least two years but is not ridiculously expensive. I would prefer also a 30GB. Could anyone that has used these things advise me? I mainly want to use if for playing educational programs - not music - to download text files to read and in some cases play games

mp3 is an audio encoding and compression format. Portable media players which play mp3 files are commonly referred to as mp3 players.
mp4 is a container format designed to store multimedia data such as digital video, audio and images. Portable media players which support this format are said to be mp4 players.
iPod is the brand name of Apple's portable media player. There is no difference between an iPod and an mp3/mp4 player because an iPod is an mp3/mp4 player.
You'll be able to watch educational programs and read text on an iPod, but you can't install and play new games.

The two major products that you are looking at is the 5th Gen iPod and 30GB Creative Zen Vision M. The iPod has can play mostly apple stuff for video, and mp3's and AAC for audio. But you can find converters for everything these days.
The Creative Zen can play Divx files and other stuff like that. The creative is cheaper as well. As far as to reading text files, i'm not sure they can do that and games are slim to none on one of those things.
For what you want to do, i would get a PDA instead of a MP3 player.

DONT Get an IPOD, they are overpriced, and overated there are SOO Many other mp3 players for way cheaper prices that perform better than the ipod. Like the Creative Zen's for instance have more INTEGRATED features in them, like Fm Radio, and FM radio radio, voice recorder, calendar, 8 EQ settings, and way more. So you should get a Creative, they have creative in Videos also.

Well,mp3 players cost less than ipods.Ipods have better sound than mp3 players,they also hold more songs than mp3 players.I know this stuff because I have both an ipod and a mp3 player.I would recommend getting an ipod.
