i took steroids too.once the left side of my face got back to normal,my left eye watered uncontrollably. The doctor said they didn't know what effects it would have but it might work. What a bunch of bullshyt. They don't know what that stuff does because it's not thoroughly tested enough. All I can suggest is patience because your nerves will come back to full function eventually.Palsy is a stress disorder. You need to relax more.Time is a more valuable drug than all that crap they're giving you.And one more piece of advice, when you get back to normal, sue the hell out of those bastards.I did !!!!

no conformed alternative drugs are there for facial nerve palsy other than what u r now taking. sometimes prednisolone can give sideeffects but that can be corrected by adjusting the dosage of the drug. do not give up the drugs what u r taking now. continue physio therpy and your nerve stimulation. its the best u can do.

Just to let you know, there's an Alternative Medicine and Therapies Clinic that has caring Professionals who might be able to help you in this case. This field includes: Acupuncture, Aroma Therapy, Yoga, etc. If you have a Nerve Problem that either got frozen due to cold weather or pinched by a facial bone, Acupuncture treatment will be able to relieve the stress, heal and cure the problem. Something like this usually is caused by imballance in the system, and Alternative Medicine has solution to practically every problem by the means of herbal medicine, teas, Acupuncture and many other ones that'll take a day or more to list and explain.

I had the simmilar problem when I was about 6... Due to the exposure to the cold weather, the nerves on the left side of my face ended up completely paralyzed. It's called "Facial Tripple Nerve" Paralysis (rough translation from another language). There are 3 of them in one: It starts at the ear and spreads to the forehead, the middle of the face and the jaw. It's the same on both sides of the face. My speech was effected as well as the reason to TMJ ("frozen" jaw and results in grinding teeth) and other complications. My Mom ended up taking me to the Alternative Medicine Therapist who performed Acupuncture on my face for about 6 to 8 months (I had a severe case of the "frozen nerve" effect). Even after 25 sessions I couldn't feel anything at all, even a strong pinch of the needle in my face. I remember the first time I felt was like it was a major holiday for me, I started to feel pain from the needle and looked at him saying, "Why did you do that?" He replied, "Acupuncture is part of the treatment and I'm glad that you can finally feel your nerves waking up." I didn't have to take any medicine except for doing facial masage to work on the facial points and make sure the nerves can remember how to work again--those points are the ones that they perform acupuncture on and there are about 365 points total. They all correspond to different bodily organs: from the brain to the tippy-toes. As the result, I also had to dress up warm and make sure that I'll never go out into the cold or even into the wind after the shower or even with just damp hair. Right now (almost 20 years later), the only thing I have left to remind me of that "incident" is just a memory and knowledge that my jaw was hurting like there's no tomorrow, but everything turned out for the better.

In any facial nerve paralysis no matter why it happened, time is of the essense (just like in any other physical and health-wise problems), the reason being: while you still can feel pain and discomfort either in the face or the rest of your body, you HAVE TO either refer to someone who knows how to treat it or work on it to make it better (i.e.: massage). Otherwise, when the pain will go away and you can't feel anything at all it means either the treatment worked or the nerves "died off."

I believe what you're doing right now is one of the best ways to deal with it. I would just recommend going to the Alternative Medicine and Therapies Clinic near you and pay a visit to the caring Professional. He/She will know exactly what to do in your case and will be able to recommend a lot of things that can benefit to your recovery. A lot of them have MDs / PhDs and other advanced medical Degrees that they even earned in their country and proved themselves here in the United States. In the long run it'll be worth the money you spend on them. Just make sure if your current treatment helps you with your pain and to heal your affected nerves, don't stop the treatment, but do continue it with the Acupuncture or other methods to increase your chances on recovery. It might take about 6 months to 3 years (depending on the severity of your case) to completely heal and not to experience it again. Just be patient and think positively towards the recovery, and everything will turn out for the better.

I hope this helped :) Best of luck and take care.
