conservatives shout out that we are trying to destroy the country, and that we're terrorists.
Calling us facists.
When actually, they should look at the political spectrum to see that liberals are on the left, and facism, is, well, on the way RIGHT.

do you really want to get rid of liberals?
wouldnt that bring you one step closer to being a SINGLE partied facist regime?

Conservatives get up every morning and make coffee with clean, filtered water because those damn Liberals protested for clean water standards. Perhaps they eat some bacon and eggs for breakfast, which are free from synthetics, such as antibiotics and growth hormones, because those damn Liberals protested for standards for raising livestock and poultry. After showering in the aforementioned clean water, Conservatives get dressed in clothes made with “no sweat” and social responsibility because those damn Liberals protested against the slave like conditions of sweat shops and for child labor laws. Conservative step outside and take a breath of fresh air because those damn Liberals protested for clean air standards. Conservatives drive to work in their fuel efficient cars because those damn Liberals protested for fuel economy and alternate sources of fuel. When the Conservatives get to work they smile, proud for achieving all that they have all on their own. Those damn Liberals have never done anything for America.

It's mostly done as a defense. The NeoCons (very few are actually Republicans, and very few of those are Conservatives) have learned to attack their weaknesses. So when you hear them bash liberal for not having a plan, it's because they don't have a plan. When you hear them talk about excessive spending, it's because they have been pushing massive spending. It's a tactic that has worked extremely well for them and is only now getting old.

This is one of my favorite quotes of all time. And even though it doesn't apply exactly to your question, I believe that you can draw an easy parallel.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
– Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

Edit:

Just look at this post below. The right has obviously been hijacked by the extreme right - so the defense is to say that the left has been hijacked by the extreme left (when in actuality the whole system is skewed to slightly the right).

I just pointed out that there are liberal allies to the terrorists, when one undermines the War Effort one is aiding the enemy. I am not going along with trying to make nice when I hear the left say I support the troops but don't support the war. That I submit is an oxymoron. I like some of the opposition, I do not embrace them all however. I did not call Liberals fascists, but history does show that the Communists signed a non-aggression pact with the Nazi's at the expense of Poland. They Allied with each other for a time.

Everybody needs to hate somebody and for the far right Christian Conservatives, that's the liberals. The so-called liberals want to spend more money for education - the conservatives want to give more money to outfits like the big oil companies. Liberals believe in taking care of the environment and doing something about global warning; conservatives say there's no such thing. The list is endless. The sad truth is that so much of the country right now is caught up in an evangelical fervor that favors the right-wing (who are little more than fascists), that liberals are getting a bum rap. Thanks to the influence of the far-right, this country is in big trouble. Liberals - good; conservatives - bad. Think how good we had it when we had a so-called middle-of-the-road liberal, Bill Clinton, as President. Now we've got bozo and his cronies and look at the mess we're in.

We're the bad guys because we have the guts and the duty to question the presidents decisions and we are not braindead like the conservatives that go along with him no matter what. The American people will be the ones with the short end of the stick in the long run, and Bush will be laughing all the way to the bank from all the money he's made off the American people (Oil).

Yes, liberals are the "bad guys" to us conservatives, and visa versa. I don't believe for one second that most libs wouldn't like to see many conservatives disappear. I, personally, have never accused any lib of being fascist, rather I believe fundamental liberal beliefs put you in the socialist/communist category. I don't necessarily want to get rid of liberal, but I would like to see "liberal" redefined to what was considered liberal 100-200 years ago. If that were the case, then I would definitely become a liberal.

Oh, and kdog, I would refrain from making comments on things you obviously haven't studied. The fact is that while people during the Civil War didn't exactly fit into our definition of liberal and conservative - the Democrats were predominately the Plantation owners and other Southern whites. While the Republican party was FOUNDED on the platform of stopping slavery.

The Liberal ideology is a theory which holds forth beliefs that have no basis in reality.
They are Advocates of a policy that empowers a strong government to enslave its people with a high tax burden incident to the support of extravagant and unnecessary social programs destructive to both the work ethic among the lower class, and the incentive to innovate and succeed among the working class.
The problems we face today are because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.
A democracy will continue to exist up until
the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous
gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority
always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from
the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally
collapse over loose fiscal policy

Do you really want to get rid of conservatives? Because that would do the same thing. I don't know how any part of this question involves slavery, and I don't think Bush is going to be laughing all the way to the bank at your expense. If you think Bush is the reason the oil prices are high, think again. The American President does not set prices.

conservatives have a better press agent... able to get their message out and stir up individual activism. Liberals have been sitting back on their kiesters re-living memories of FDR and JFK and all that they accomplished in the 60s and 70s... they way things are going things will be the same (or worse) than they were before all the reforms started to take place (Including those initiated by Republican Teddy Roosevelt).

Not to mention ending slavery was a liberal idea. I bet that's not the case anymore. If a politician is telling you what you can't do in your own home, it is usually a conservative. The sad part is, most of the people that have these views in this question probably won't vote to make them heard.

Because Karl Rove has turned the word "liberal" into something with a negative connotation for political purposes.

Bush doesn't make gas prices go up, his buddies in the oil industry (including his Saudi friends) do. We all know how loyal Bush is to his friends (at least the ones who aren't in jail).
