It would mostly be used for web development but I wan't the performance capabillties for gaming, movies and music.

look at like the Dell XPS etc. They do a lot, but they'll eat a battery in nothing flat. How much on-the-road high end graphics do you think you'll be doing, anyway?

I have one of those behemoth HPs too. Today's desktop replacements are far better than my one year old model from what I hear- especially when it comes to heat and battery life (two of the biggest problems).

Dell and HP are both reasonably affordable compared to Toshiba or apple.

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop. A couple yrs old, it has been rated as a viable replacement for desktops due to it's capabilities. the downsides are it's heavy, the battery only lasts one hour, and it's actually too hot to leave on your lap too long.
But check it out - mine is a 3Ghz processor and it's been great!

Laptops have more breakdowns and cost more to fix than desktop computers. Unless you need to use it in more than one house or location you should stick with the desktop.

i would recommend sony or dell
on dell.com they have all there laptops and you can "build" your own by picking what you want it to come with
they also have laptops made specially for entertainment with more graphics and sound capabilities and stuff if thats what u want
