Ooooh I know, African ones have bigger ears and Indian ones are more wrinkled and I think they look uglier, they like to eat grass, foliage, fruit, branches, and twigs. I'd say the best place for a Cuddly elephant is Hamleys and they sell a lot of soft toys where profits goto WWF too.

Here's some information:

The African elephant has the largest ears. And the Indian elephant is now known as the Asian elephant.
They eat leaves off trees.
Not sure where to get a cuddly elephant from try toy shops.
Good luck in your quest about elephants.

My mum told me Indian elephants were grumpier than African, but maybe I wasn't listening, I'm sure owlwings is right. Cos after all, in India the people very much got the hang of taming elephants but it was much less of an African thing. But then again, there was Hannibal of Carthage...

I got my daughter a cuddly toy elephant at Edinburgh Zoo. Not in England, sorry. She didn't really want it, I don't think. But that was years ago.

I have nothing to contribute to the actual question, sorry.

I forgot which has the larger ears. Sorry. I knew it when I was in grade school, I simply forgot.

Best place in England to buy a cuddly toy elephant? Sorry, never been there. My father visited one time, long ago (he died last year). And I've seen my family's coat of arms from the old country (Ireland, actually), but it may take some time for me to get there. I haven't taken a vacation (for myself) in 18 years. My daughter's had the last two vacations dedicated to her.

But... I'll tell you what. If I ever go to see Ireland, it's all too close to London to not actually visit there too. And, if I make it that far, I HAVE to at least email Dorypanda from her own country.

African elephants have the bigger ears. They are also less tameable than Indian ones (though it has been done - I think Hannibal's elephants were African ones but I'm not sure. Carthage had no native elements.

Elephants are herbivores, that is, they like to vore herbs (not Lady Basil and Sage the Owl but the greenery type of stuff which they pull up or down, as the case may be, with their trunks) The trunk is also useful, as the Bi-Coloured-Python-Rock-Snake pointed out, for spanking one's dear families and Aunt Ostrich.

As for the cuddly type elephant, there used to be elephants which were not much bigger than an average St Bernard (http://geography.berkeley.edu/ProgramCourses/CoursePagesFA2004/geog148/Lectures/Lecture16/MedMap.html ) but I think what you mean is something more like this: http://www.plushpaws.co.uk/category-80/TUM3E.html

Good question, especially after spending the day at Rotterdam zoo today with the kids!!

Indian elephants have smaller ears, a lump on their forehead, a fully rounded back, and their trunks are different too, but I can't remember why (too much information for today!).

They were feeding them all kinds of veggies and fruit; they seemed to like cabbage very much, though I think they were so hungry that they would have eaten anything.

As for buying a cuddly toy one, I honestly don't know. Try Hamleys.

We loved the aquarium: we saw some "dories"swimming round!

He defeated the Romans on the Trebia and Lake Trasimene in 217 BC, and at Cannae in 216.
