you have had a "browser hijack",just follow these instructions for effective removal
1.go start>control panel>add\remove programs>now check for any programs that shoud,nt be there i.e ones you havent installed and ones that dont make any sense, trust me ,they will stand out
2.if you find any, remove them, most come with a un-installer,and will convince you to keep the program, ignore it and remove it
3.using another pc,or yours if possible go to http://www.safer-networking.org/,and download spy-bot,this will identify and clean the spyware responsible for the browser hijack
make sure you update and imunize spy-bot so you have all the latest defenitions, you will find you may only have about 2 or 3 spyware, omce the scan is finished ,press "repair selected problems",this will clean the spyware
4.also go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/,and download adaware personal, install it and run the scanner ,this will clean up anything spybot cannot find
this is why alot of users use adaware with spybot as they work well together, spybot cleaning spyware, and adaware dealing with adware, making a brilliant all-round utility
now right click>internet options>reset your homepage to www.yahoo.com(or whoever you use),and remember to press apply and then ok
this should now stay on yahoo,as it was the spyware(or adware),that was sending you to a different site as a homepage, its a type of forced marketing, but totally illegal
now you have it fixed, you want to prevent this happening again,go to http://esd.element5.com/demoreg.html?productid=300042690&languageid=1,and download the 6 month evaluation of f-secure
this has a brilliant browser control, that detects and stops any browser hijacks,it uses a internet explorer sheild to protect you on-line,you cant even change your homepage yourself!
f-secure also is a very good virus and spyware scanner, and works very well with service pack 2(unlike norton)
any probs with the homepage reset, post a question
good luck

It has put itself into your registry. Get the name and Google it and you will find a site specifically for completely removing it.
