You should really talk to your parents.
But there are some factors that go into this question. Your maturity level should be the main focus. It also depends on the age of the person you want to date. You should try to stick with someone who's around your own age. For example, let's just say you're 15 (although I don't know your age) and a 20 year old guy wants to date you, that's a definite NO NO. He's probably only got one thing in mind and you definitely don't need that right now. One piece of advice I have for you - don't try to grow up too fast. Life comes at you in the blink of an eye, enjoy your youth now while you can. You are going to get lots of mixed feelings about lots of different aspects of your life. Concentrate on prioritizing what's important to you. First, and foremost, that should be your education. Socializing should never come before your education. You need to have the right balance of these things in your life in order to make things work out for the best. Please trust me when I tell you this. I look back at my youth and school was never more important to me than my friends. I could have been such a better student but I didn't apply myself like I should have. If you learn now, this will help you to be a very successful, functioning adult in this crazy world. I really feel bad for kids who are growing up now with everything you're exposed to. Just be a "good girl" and keep your head on straight. The dating thing will fall into place when it's supposed to. Have a great life!

This is going to be different for every family. I would not go by age in years so much as age in maturity. If you have a 14 yo who asks as responsibly as an 18 she would obviously get more of my trust, trust that she knows how to handle herself in some of those stickier date situations.
If I knew she knew she wasnt ready for sex, could defend herself and still be home by curfew, her age wouldnt enter into it too much. However, anything under 14 is too young, for either gender. Dont be in such a hurry to grow up. Being an adult SUCKS in the modern world.

I think when you are 12 or so you can have your parents drop you off at the movies and pick you up. I don't know what you mean by dating. But if you are going swimming and parents drop you off and pick you up i think you can be 12 or 13.
