Lots of bright red (fresh) blood is typically a sign of trouble. A little bright red blood might mean the your placenta is low and moving away from the cervix. Darker (older) blood is usually not a concern. Spotting during pregnancy is very common and, while it might be scary, it usually doesn't mean anything's wrong.
Do you have a care provider you can ask these questions to? If not, you're welcome to join my pregnancy/childbirth group here on Yahoo. The ladies there give good advice to unassisted (and assisted) birthers.

Hope that helps!

Well, I don't think any doctor would say it's "normal", but I know, from personal experience, that it can be a fluke thing and not be a cause for concern. I had bright red spotting, was told to drink LOTS of fluids (which I wasn't previously too good about), and have not spotted since. I was told that it could be a slight placental tear (caused by rapid growth of the uterus to accommodate the growing baby). And, that this will heal on its own. It could also be a busted capillary from an engorged cervix (which is a symptom of pregnancy). This bleeding is brought on after intercourse or pelvic exams. This doctor mentioned he has see spotting like this in many pregnant women in their first trimester.
Bright red spotting, however, can also be a sign of an impending miscarriage. The only way to be certain is to have your OB check you out. This is especially so when you are soaking more than one pad and hour, have cramping with your bleeding, and passing clots.
I know how nervewracking not knowing can be! Hang in there. I hope this is just a fluke thing for you and baby! :)

I don't think it is normal, but it happens. I bled once, it was clots, I went to the Dr. and they told me it was just some uterine lining nothing to worry about. Most of the time if it is not really heavy or last very long you are OK. But if it s painful or bright red and last a while go to the emergency room or Dr. I saw a study that said 80% of women who bleed in the 1st 3 months usually have no problems with losing babies or babies having problems because of the bleeding. God Bless and Good Luck. And don't worry to much, that can make things worse, just see a Dr.

I bled a lot when I was pregnant, and found out at the sonogram I had placenta previa.Luckily I had a full term healthy baby. Although a lot of women report bleeding, you still need to report it to your doctor, because it is considered a threatened miscarriage when you bleed.

some women say they never even knew they were preganat since they were still having a period, i think it is if it is not much and not bright red, a small amount of bleeding is accepted since your body is constantly being stretched and some of your inner parts so to speak are being crunched up and tossed over to make room for the growing baby, but to be on the safeside i would check with my dr. they are use to that, we all have tons of fears during preg. so ask him because you dont wanna be kicking yourself in the butt later on if something were really wrong and couldve been helped had they found out sooner, so better to be safe than sorry....

You should always contact your doctor if you have any questions or worries about your pregnancy. Spotting can be normal, but bleeding may be something more serious. You should call your doctor to be on the safe side, it never hurts to be safe.

The common answer on pregnancy websites is that bleeding is never "normal", but it is very common. You should always check out bleeding with your doctor, but it may very well be that nothing is wrong.

Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting". It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

Very small amount of bleeding may be ok. If it is more or happens often, get to your doctor asap. To be sure, call your doctor, only he/she knows your health history.
