Cannabis in its natural habitat, grows to two or three meters high. The leaves have minute globules of resin on the underside. The plants are 'harvested' and the 'processor' whips the branches of the plant against a table or worktop to which the resin sticks. He then scrapes the resin off the table and forms it into small bars. It is obviously easier to transport and is more expensive. Your friend will not give up its use unless he really and truthfully wants to do so. He will not have 'withdrawal symptoms' as do heroin users and will not have to go 'cold turkey'. He may become quite paranoid at times and this is when he may revert. If he is successful, his body should be clear in about a month. There is a school of thought that he could possibly have 'flashbacks' over the coming years. Good luck in your endeavors.............
