I am a Christian, so I can only answer your question from that perspective. Other perspectives are as valid to others as mine is to me.

It's simple. People need to believe in something, and some choose to believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible. Now, these folks will tell you that there are certainly parts of the Bible that aren't meant to be taken literally, such as parables and examples, but they've decided that Genesis is neither.

However, scientific evidence suggests that it just didn't happen that way!

Since I have a heart that needs to believe AND a mind that's curious about science, and I believe that God made me that way, and He doesn't make mistakes, here's how I handle the problem.

When I'm thinking about science, I use scientific thinking and I weigh evidence and suggestions from others and I come to a theory that satisfies my curiosity and my mind. Aha! *This* is how the universe probably developed!

When I'm thinking about God, I allow my heart to know that He could certainly have done it any way he wanted. I realize how awesome it is that He set into motion the intricate laws that govern matter, space and time AND He gave us minds that want to know, in detail, how things work. Not only that, but He also gave us a story to tell (Genesis) to start us out on our mind's search for understanding!

I'm never confused about the two, and yet, I believe them both. That's what works for me, and I think it makes Him smile.

Let's answer this simply.

If God created the universe, he also created the natural laws of the universe as well, right?

He created the methods of creating elements. All elements other than hydrogen and some helium were created in side the bellies of stars and during their explosive deaths.

Now taking those two things into account...God had to start from the bottom!

If God is infallible, and he created the laws of the universe, it would there for be logical to assume that he must follow his own laws. You never create something from nothing. You take what is there already, and use it to make something new.

Just because you can't understand something does not mean it can not happen. Thats your problem if you can't think outside of your own skull, not His.

Plus...if God gave us minds to think with, then why would he want us to be empty-headed, ring-kissing ninnies?

You are putting limitations on the God who created everything out of nothing at all. The Bible is specific in Genesis 1:1 when it says, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." I believe the other planets and stars are included in 'heavens'. I also think it is easier to believe that a sovereign, supreme Being created everything than some chemical reaction.

It says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." I think that the planets are part of the heavens. They were not important in the bible because there is not life on them. There are more parts to the bible. They couldn't put them all in what we read today. It would be too long. Also I have heard preachers teach that God doesn't want us to know and understand and have answer for everything, then we wouldn't need God's help.

Why would you allow them to limit God? God created the Heavens and the earth. Before He created earth there was chaos and He made something out of nothing. When He created the heavens there is no reason to believe He stopped at the planets. He is the Creator of all.

Don't be fooled by what other people say God created. Remember stay a christian!! God did create the Earth,Moon, and Sun. He probaly created the other planets to. It is just something you have to believe in without proof. There is always a flaw somewhere in science when they try to prove how the earth was formed and how life came into existence. It can only be answered by "GOD DID IT"!!!

God created the entire universe, not just the earth. It is hard for the human mind to fathom a being so powerful as to be able to create the universe, but it's true. I believe what the Bible tells us, that God created it all.

If God created the universe, then he created the earth as well...or do you believe that God did not create the universe? What isn't known is how God created it all. Perhaps, we're discovering some of teh methods and processes that God used and continues to use through our study of the universe. One thing is clear from the creations story in Genesis...and that is that God created substance and then built things....he did not create finished products.

why do you think that God couldn't have used other parts of the universe he created to form our planet? God and the Big Bang are not mutually exclusive. Who do you think caused/enabled the Big Bang to occur? Who do you think created the elements of the universe that made up the Big Bang? I'm not saying that the Big Bang is necessarily how the creation of the universe occurred but rather that one can believe in it as a theory of how God created the universe.

God created the heavens and the earth meaning all the planets and the universe. Do you think it all just happened by accident?
