My 7 year old daughter somehow has injured the heel of her foot. She has been limping and I am wondering how long it will take to heal. She has been to the doctor and he told me to come back in 3 weeks. Is there anything I can do to help her foot feel better? She likes putting it in cool water. I am going to ask the doctor about a brace, because any kind of pressure seems to agrivate it. It is hard to make her sit still all day to give it a chance to get better. Has anyone else done this, or have a child that has injured his/her foot. It mostly hurts on the heel where she walks.

follow the docs advice.....if walking on it aggravates it she could be hindering the healing process thus prolonging a bad situation.....suggestion - its hard for a child at that age to stay still and they have no concept of time so this makes it worse...what seems like half hour to us seems like half day to them...provide her with activities that will keep her occupied while she is "down"...coloring books, READING books, have her write letters to grandparents and other family members she may even develop a pen pal.

Do you know how she hurt her heel? If she stepped on a stone it is quite possibly a bruise and will take just a little longer to heal than a bruise on other parts of the body, mostly because she is up on it and active. What you are doing is the best thing you can do and see if she might limit her activities for a short while. Also, childrens Motrin will help with some of the pain as long as she stays off of it for long lengths of time. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and she won't be in so much pain. Good Luck.

what kind of injury does she have?????
go for what the doc tells you to do. if she's having a lot of trouble and the heel aggravates her too much, you can also ask the doctor for a good working pain med ( note: children need different dosages than aadults do). go back if any trouble occurs, a brace could hep (depends on the injury).

good luck

it can take 6 weeks or so to heal usually. try an ice pack, wrap in a towel or pillow case to avoid direct contact (direct contact can cause more pain). call your doctor to question whether she needs a brace and explain why you feel she may need one. i've injured my foot, but not my heel. call her doctor, his nurse or physicians assistant, to ask any questions you're concerned about! that's what they're there for!!!

it really depends on how healthy it is, how much rest it gets and how hard the injury is..
