Gay, yes... waiting to get married, no! We had a commitment ceremony a couple years ago on Maui. What we ARE waiting for is for the government to RECOGNIZE our marriage.
Jeepchick, I have seen the text of the proposed Wisconsin amendment. (I'm orginally from your state.) By banning both gay marriage AND civil unions, it is pure, unadulterated punitive discrimination. The only good news is that it means it will almost certainly be overturned as unconstitutional.... eventually.
To my gay brothers and sisters... be patient, be vigilant, and do NOT be quiet. We will eventually win this fight!

I'm not gay but it's going to be quite a while before gays can legally get married in the states. Especially since the Republicans are in office. Get a democrat in office. Maybe.

Vermont and Hawaii offer civil unions and Massachusetts allows gay marriage. The catch is that you have to live in those states to be recognized as a legal couple. On the ballots in Wisconsin this year the citizens vote whether or not to ban both gay marriages and civil unions. If the ban passes I am planning on moving to a state that will give us the rights we deserve.

My girlfriend and i have been together for over 4 years...yes we would like to get married but the chances of it being legal in florida before we are dead is very slim...since we own a home here and have no plans to move it will more than likely never happen

yes, I am a lesbian. my partner and I have been together over 2 years now. we have given each other rings, and this past Saturday, June 24th, we participated in a committment ceremony at St. Louis Pridefest. Shamefully, I live in Missouri which had to be the 1st state to amend it's constitution to ban gay marriage. President Dubya may not have succeeded, thankfully, in amending the Federal Constitution, but he did succeed in prodding all the homophobes out of the closet around the country who decided we MUST amend our state constitutions to make us all second-class citizens. Nothing but legalized bigotry, fools! Amendments are supposed to EXPAND rights, not make sure people are denied more rights!
Brothers and sisters, we just have to fight that much harder to get these yahoos out of office and one of these days, we will previal!

i am gay. i could really care less if i get married or not, but i want those who want to to be able to do so. i don't really need a piece of paper or a gold ring to tell me what i feel about my partner, i let me heart and head do that for me.
it's so hard for young g/l/b/t out there in small town America, who are trying to deal with their sexuality, as well as the attitude of many people of "it's okay to openly hate gay people".
i'm tired of everyone thinking that we're going to just keep turning the other cheek and allow the abuse to go on, thinking we're not going to rise up. let me remind those people that while i may sleep with another man, i am still a man, and will beat you down like a man.
i'm tired of everyone thinking that we are a walking talking stereotype. i don't act feminine, and am not attracted to guys who do. i don't know how to do make-up or hair, could care less about broadway show tunes, cher, bette midler, or judy garland, nor do i want to seduce every straight man out there.
i'm tired of people trying to preach at me, tired of them telling me i'm a sinner while they are sleeping with god knows who themselves, or doing god knows what. remember-jesus said he without sin, cast the 1st stone.
i'm tired of people using the bible to opress gays and lesbians, i'm tired of them using the bible to openly hate me.
i'm tired of stupid people, if you don't like gays, then stay away from us, and we will stay away from you. maybe you should have a bumper sticker or some kind of tattoo or a stupid people pride march so we can find out who you people are, so we can stay away from you.
i'm tired of gay pride celebrations, it has totally forgotten what stonewall was all about. no cheesy rainbow jewelry, or seeing half naked people walk around while the indigo girls sing, and every group that is gay or gay friendly has their hand out is going to tell me how we as a group are going to help rise ourselevs above the oppression that we are still getting.
