I'd like more "contemporary" stuff, like Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and Kenny Loggins "Return to Pooh Corner." No Brahm's Lullaby or the like. Any suggestions?

For those who suggest a whole album, I want to do a compilation CD, so what would you say is the best song off of the album?

Also, my brother has already gotten a bunch of classical CDs since everyone knows they're good for the baby. I want more contemporary stuff for this one. And for those who are giving just artist names, what songs do you recommend from those artists?

A New Day Has Come by Celine Dion. It's a song about her baby boy.

Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants by Jimmy Buffett (Volcano CD) It's a little more upbeat but it's a sweet little song. Yes, it's done in English.

Mary Chapin Carpenter has a song called Dreamland which is really nice. You can try and listen to it at

Sun goes down and says goodnight
Pull your covers up real tight
By your bed we'll leave a light
To guide you off to dreamland
Your pillows soft your bed is warm
Your eyes are tired when day is done
One more kiss and you'll be gone
On your way to dreamland
Every sleepy boy and girl
In every bed around the world
Can hear the stars up in the sky
Whispering a lullaby
Who knows where you'll fly away
Winging passed the light of day
The man in the moon and the milky way
Welcome you to dreamland
Every sleepy boy and girl
In every bed around the world
Can hear the stars up in the sky
Whispering a lullaby
Who knows where you'll fly away
Winging passed the light of day
The man in the moon and the milky way
Welcome you to dreamland

It really depends on what he responds to. My daughter, since birth has slept to Woody Guthrie every night, but I made a mix for her with Blondie, Dee Dee Ramone, the Headcoatees, the Jam, English Beat and all this other excellent punk and garage etc..and she sleeps to that too! Anything that I listened to when I was pregnant, my daughter finds relaxing. What a nice idea you ohave to personalize a lullaby mix for your nephew. you are a great aunt!

i understand that's no longer a lullaby yet my grandson could in basic terms circulate to sleep to candy toddler James via James Taylor. Its an exceedingly mushy soothing music. Mozarts softer music is likewise very soothing

If by new you mean newly born, I should recommend you Love songs, like Belinda Carlile - promise Me, and most of Abba songs.
