Despite its name, the World Series is not a "world championship" in the same sense as the FIFA World Cup or the Cricket World Cup because it is not between national teams, but is limited to Major League Baseball teams, which represent individual cities and states (currently of the United States and Canada only).

Only America because, to Americans, America IS the world. Few of them ever venture outside the country or even know anything about the rest of the world. That's why, when you see a picture of Paris or London on screen, they have to put a caption which says Paris FRANCE or London ENGLAND. I know there are over 20 places called Paris in the USA but I doubt if any has an Eiffel tower. Or any other London has Westminster Palace.

it's not broken up by countries but by leagues.the best team from the American league and the best team from the national league.there does happen to be a team from Canada who when they win there league they play in the series.used to be two teams until last year when the expos moved from Montreal to Washington.so from a countries stand point two but they aren't looked upon that way.
the world baseball classic held every 4 years along with the Olympics are the only true "world series"

Players come from all over Latin America, Asia, Canada, and still a good number from the US. Earlier this year there was a championship of teams from many countries. If I remember correctly there were many good teams from many countries (and Puerto Rico was a country). Maybe MLB should change the name of their championship.

Two U.S. and Canada. Two times in the past, maybe too far back in time for some of you crack-heads to remember, the Toronto Blue Jays played and won the World Series.

The way that it's been explained is: The teams are all based in America and Canada but the players are the World's best Baseball players. It still sounds daft to me but who am I to complain?

"World Series" really is only the United States. The Best Team from the AL plays the best team from the NL.

The rest of the world were banned from taking part after their baseball bats were confiscated at the airport!!

Those Americans invited the Aussies to play, but they complained when Shane Ward stated spinning the ball around!!
