LJ has really nice free features, and once you get the S1 system down, you can customize it pretty much any way you want. Also, there are lots of communities, so it never gets boring.

It boggs AND has a social network service. Also has great customization capabilities. (But...sometimes the custom pages cant be viewed right in Firefox)
