hello, i'm tryi'ng to restore my computer, but i keep getting error message saying " missing: c:\preload\windows.w32" file. what can i do? i installed windows vista beta 2. but i don't like it, so i'm tryin'g to restore my computer back to windows xp. plz help. thankx

You should be restoring the PC off of a restore disc or a copy of Windows XP on CD. If you are using a local install already on your hard drive, then it is likely Vista overwrote a file you need to install XP from that location.

If you ARE using a CD and you're still getting that error, you likely have a scratched CD.

Have you done a restart in safe mode? Disconnect from the internet, turn off the system, turn it back on and hit F8 until you see a screen that offers safe mode. select that, the computer will run and the screen will look funny but then the welcome screen appears and the log in screen, select administrator, go to start when the toolbar appears, select accessories, select system restore and select restore point. Follow directions. When computer restarts, let it run. Turn off system and reconnect to internet and turn machine on. Good Luck.
