The Gospels in the Bible are considered to be some the best literature in existance.
Other than that, the best classical writer is Shakespeare, hands down. His work is classic for a reason. Other writers are great, but he is the greatest.
Modern writers just don't cut it. Some are good, many are entertaining, but, unfortunately, none are great.

Sorry if tis hurts - but Moses wins hands down, followed by the gospel writers. Can there be anyone else! If you consider the whole of Bible as fiction - boy then these guys are the greatest authors ever! If you believe in the Bible - then they have the most authority on wht they say!

I believe at one time, Stephen King was the best. Perhaps he isn't as great as he once was, but he's still pretty good. Now, before anyone disses his genre of writing, I believe SK could write a good western if he wanted, or any other type of book. In fact, I used to wish I could write like that and write a western; I can't imagine how it would have been!
