our hands are tied. thats why its seems we can't do anything right. they have removed the fetters from our legs and placed them on our minds. a nation in africa cannot take a decision without the ok frm the powers that be i.e uk n america mainly. when we are given a loan, they determine what we should use it for , not what really needs to be done . whats more, they insist that contracts be given to their nationals instead of africans.
talk about unfair trade practices. they dictate the price of goods we sell to them and also dictate how much we must pay for goods we buy from them . how can africa progress in the midst of all these.
when african leaders adopt a system of government which best suits us, america and uk are quick to dismantle such governments . this is because of the fear that we may become self-sufficientand have no more use of them. the us government has openly admitted the overthrow of governments of countries like ghana under nkrumah in 1966, zaire under patrice lumumba and so many other african countries .
as a result of the above, our leaders have become stooges of these western imperial powers. they listen to america uk etc more than the citizzens of their own countries. the interests of america and co are made to supecede that of individual natioinal concerns.
I want to conclude that it is not because africans can't get things right . it is because we are overwhelmed by neo-colonialism and its attendants problems. consider the works of blacks in europe and america and their contributions in science, business, international affairs , sports and you would realise that africans are great achievers. Soon, 'spring will be reborn under our steps' and we would rise up to take our rightful place in society and world affairs. it may tarry but it will surely come to pass

Nothing is wrong with Africa. The legacy of European colonialism is still damaging the continent.
Europe did nothing in Africa that they did not gain from. They may have brought some modern things, but Africa more than paid for them in natural resources.
Even now the rest of the world fleeces Africa - in debt repayments. Debts that should never have been run up as ethically the former colonial powers have a duty to pay back some of what they took.

European nations have colonized parts of Asia in the past; after their exploitation of the lands/people, they usually leave behind administrative systems for local governments to expand on: language, civil service, road & railways, postal, telecommunication, legal framework, etc.
African states have not emulated the political, socio-economic successes achieved by former colonies in Asia after they got their independences. This certainly has to do with the calibre of African leaderships which did little to elevate the standard of living for the masses. Today 7 African states make the list of the world's 10 most corrupt countries; remaining 3 are Bangladesh, Turkmenistan and Myanmar.
Why is South Africa the most prosperous and attractive state in Africa? Europeans.
One cannot always blame European colonizers as bad - look at Africa today and you will find Africans exploiting, killing Africans in the tens of thousands - this time around it's the Arabs who are the masters; they can't be better - look at Sudan-Dafur, Eithopia.
The problem with Africa is Africans themselves.

Yes I totally agree, the Europeans messed Africa up big time. They kidnapped hundreds of thousands of people for slavery, replaced traditional tribal structures with bureaucracy, stripped countries of their natural resources and then abandoned them to their own devices when having colonies became unfashionable, leaving corrupt bureaucracies behind that operate like headless chickens.
Europeans (and Americans and Canadians) still sell small arms to African countries and not just to legitimate governments either. The trade in small arms is responsible for millions of deaths and for the duration of the many conflicts on the continent.
Almost all of Africa's current ills can be traced to European colonisation policies and the small arms trade..... but not all of them. A large percentage of deaths in childbirth for instance can be attributed to the practise of ritual female genital mutilation; a practise which pre-dates colonisation. The spread of HIV has been compounded by African social customs that have nothing to do with colonisation.
The world needs to work together with African countries to help solve the problems of Africa. There is no quick solution.

I have lived and worked in Europeand in Africa and I completely disagree with you. Europe is a dump: aging population, bad weather, failing society, moral degeneration, etc.
Europe is not a bed of roses it's history is peppered with some very bloody and dark times (WW1, WW2, dark ages, inquistitions, etc...).
Africa has a lot going for it: the people, the culture, resources, tourism, etc. Sure there are negetives but sooner or later things turn around, they always do!! Africa has HUGE potential, it just needs to rid itself of the begging mentality and do things for itself!
Africa will come round, sooner or later, the wheel always turns...

There is nothing wrong with Africa, only some people (like you) have low opinions of themselves and waste time complaining instead of working to improve themselves and their continent.
Do your part instead of complaning, work hard, feed your family, participate in civic duties, speak up when you see wrongs, help your community -both pysically and financially.
Africa is a mass of land, Africans are what make it a great continent.
