I don't think you can say that so-and-so died because of guns. That's like saying car accident victims died because of cars. Doesn't make sense. Tools are used, in the commission of a crime or act of violence or carelessness or stupidity or ignorance--sometimes they are guns. You can't place blame on and punish the tools. Should guns be banned, because of that?
People get run over or hit by cars. Should we call for the abolition of automobiles? A child killed by someone using a gun is tragic, but it is a tragedy, regardless of the tool used. Parents should teach their children about guns--how to use them safely.

I'd say keep guns locked up and out of reach. Teach gun safety early. Take you child to a gun range and teach marksmanship, practical gun safety, and responsibility. If they are allowed to learn about firearms when they are young they will treat them with respect. My Son had a 22 by the time he was 6yrs and an SKS by the time he was 8yrs old. My Son is now 25yrs old and a pretty good shot. Never had any ND's negligent discharges.
Every time I hear about a child dieing because of a firearm it makes me sad for the child and mad at the negligent parents. Should be someway to regulate who can be a parent so the stupid, irresponsible, and lazy can be weeded out.

I feel pretty sad. I just heard such a story here in my state, happened yesterday I believe. Two boys were playing, and one was 10 and shot the other boy about 14 I think? Anyway the boy was dead. If kids are going to be around, people need to be extra special careful about where and how their guns are kept. Common sense, like childproofing a house.

It's very sad, as sad as when I hear about kids getting hit by cars, beat to death by an adult, killed by another child in any way, died during football practice... so forth. Kids need to be taught about all dangers and the right way to treat others.

What do you feel when you hear on the news that a child died because of a theme park ride?
Guns are like televisions or vcr's. . .they can be used for good or evil - it's the user, not the item that is to blame.

I feel it was a stupid thing that they had access to guns or that someone could just shoot kids like that. And also what a waste of those kids' life.
