Well for most people it is dead. But, I try to respect people. I still open doors for women (and men). And I say please and thank you. I try to remember proper table manners. Respect someone and you will get it back. But, in these times some women don't want you to open doors for them. It is a show of dominance to some women and they don't want to be dominated.

Pretty much, but an woman who is not desperate should not accept anything less than chivalry. Maybe it is because they don't 'have' to do it.... so they won't. A woman with some class and self respect are still valuable people to 'some' men. Class: as in principled, slightly old school, gentle, well mannered...not a greedy designer snob...designer is fine, greed and snobbery never are.
If women think they are the same as men, and pay half the rent, etc....they are merely roommates - then they obviously should not expect chivalry. They are desperate. Let a man take care of you, and maybe he will. Men have too many easy, aggressive women all around them. We have taught them that we are so desperate for their presence that we need/expect nothing from them. WRONG. If we calm down a bit, they will find their chivalry - or they will be taught. If we fight all our own battles, why would they slay the dragon for us?

Part of it has to do with the feminine movement. My wife doesn't want me to open the door for her or pull her chair out at the table. She says that she is an independent woman and doesn't need that from me. I have stopped doing it for her because of this.
