The scene close to the start of yankee Werewolf in London the position the hero David and his chum Jack get attacked by a werewolf strolling on the moors at nighttime. The werewolf comes out of nowhere. The sounds as its growling and tearing at Jack's throat. And Jack screaming. OMG! Then, it cuts to a silhouette of Jack's body mendacity there and he's taking his very last breath and all his innards sort of ooze over his part with the finished moon shining down. Scared the residing crap out of me.

The first time I saw "Scream" I was quite young and had seen practically 2 or 3 horror movies, so I thought it was pretty scary. It was also a good scene because it sucked you into the movie and made you want to see more.
When directors try to pull off the same thing today, it's just cliched and funny.

The opening scene of When a Stranger Calls (the older one) is crazy scary.
P.S. The rest of the movie is horrible, but the first 10 minutes are great for suspense.

It's not horror but the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan made me glad I was born in 1960
