i was driving to work today and in front of me is this very large Ford Truck...just guzzlin the gas as it's driving along.
well, i get close enough to it to see some bumper stickers on the back tailgate....
and to my surprise they are ENVIRONMENTAL stickers....like "keep our rivers clear".

i had to do a little chuckle. anyone else find this amusing??
and, i suppose a bit sad.....

I'm amazed people are still driving those 10 mpg cars, with gas at $3 a gallon. Notice how many SUVs sit on car lots now...

Why does it amuse you....maybe the guy uses the truck for work purposes but he's a fisherman so he's also concerned about our environment. Sorry not everyone is as perfect as you and the very small world you live in. Just because a guy drives a big truck instead of a little ratty piece of shiit like you doesn't make him a bad guy...it just makes him a guy driving a big truck which you obviously have a problem with.....jealous?

in some circumstances if i'm analyzing some thing by way of a foreign places author, there could desire to be a reference i are not getting - besides the fact that it particularly is an extremely, very uncommon prevalence. ninety 9 situations out of one hundred I the two comprehend what it means or can actually guess from the context. working example, in spite of the undeniable fact that i'm no longer American, I particularly comprehend what 'to plead the 5th' means. I certainly can no longer think of of any party the place i've got mandatory to look some thing as much as discover what it meant. bear in mind, of course, that American movies and television are so often broadcast in Europe that maximum folk in maximum ecu countries comprehend plenty greater American slang than maximum individuals comprehend slang words and cultural references from countries in Europe. it is not a grievance of individuals; it fairly is because of the fact there's a huge professional-American imbalance interior the transAtlantic cultural import-export. working example, interior the united kingdom see movies *each and all of the time* the place human beings say 'flashlight' and 'sidewalk' and 'cellular telephone' and 'diaper', so all of us comprehend what they advise even however we particularly say 'torch' and 'pavement' and 'cellular' and 'nappy'. American slang would not confuse maximum Brits because of the fact we are continuously bombarded with it, like it or no longer. regarding writing, i take advantage of the slang that i think of my characters could use in the event that they have been real human beings. when you consider that they are English characters, they use English slang and confer with English issues. i do no longer incorporate them for the sake of it or as 'catchphrases'; they are basically there as part of the realism of the controversy. and for this reason i think of they are significant; they replicate fact and make talk look organic for a character's origins, age, social type and so on.

I had a woman flip me off when she thought I was trying to cut her off in a starbucks drive thru lane (I wasn't, I was trying to park in the lot). Then I notice as she skids ahead that the little convertible mercedes she is driving in (with her lapdog) has a WWJD sticker and a little fish decal (Christian tag). I thought, wow... I'm pretty sure Jesus would not be flipping people off and driving a Mercedes.

You are not the only one who finds an oxymoron like that funny, UN fortunately the real issue is not funny. because it is our children's world and we know the facts of global warming yet we still want to do things to this world that we know is going to cause alot of headaches for future generations. SO do we laugh or cry?
