I have a re-occuring problem, when I try to use Internet Exlporer I click on it and all I get is a blank screen. Then I try to close and I get the 'programme not responding' message and I have to 'End task now'. This is becoming quite annoying as it is happening more and more often.

I have had a similiar problem and when I spoke to the tech support desk this is what direction I was given and it worked like a charm. You will have to restore your system back to a point where you know it worked prior to this problem.

Try "system restore"

go to start
go to all programs
got to accessiories
got to systems tools
go to system restores

this will explain how do this and it will ask you are you sure that you want to do this.

It will at one point show a calendar with bold and and small dates the bold dates are the dates that your system was backed-up. Pick a date that you know that your computer was working just fine, and go from there.

It is now hard, if I can do it anyone can.
