The benefits of writing are similar to the benefits of playing a instrument or painting a picture. You are making something where there was previously nothing. And when you create something that you love you get a HIGH.
This high is better than any that a drug could give you.
And when you feel it you feel like you are flying. This high belongs to you alone. You own it as your right for your creation.
And that feeling is magnificent.

The benefits of writting are being able to feel the characters pumping through you as you write their story down and spin them a tale of hero's villains and some of the best things in life...
others include the pride you feel as you close the cover of the book you have just written and say to yourself "Finally I have arrived..."
And then you book goes out into the world with your heart soul and mind and you realize your accomplishments...

And that is the benefits of writting.

okay..i have to write this before i read other ppl's answers...lol

i write, KNOWING what i'm about to send out into the world. when i was younger...certain books (i enjoy fiction/fantasy) were honestly what kept me dreaming--as corny as that may sound. they're what inspired me and after a series was finished, i would actually MISS the characters and miss those feelings that i had while reading the book. it was a bit like, they were MY memories...only they weren't real...just very inspirational. plus, people who may have grown up w/ a difficult life--may have found hope in books...dreams of writing in them...and a sense of not being alone...because even though you're reading about fake people--all the words had to come from someone, you know? when you feel, what the character feels...you really become a part of the story...

to sum this up, to ME, the benefit of writing is giving someone ELSE all of those feelings. not just a way to blow of some of MY steam... it may be my creation..but its not about that....it's about what i can send out into the world.

to me, that's what its all about

i think of my little sister :)

Writing anything? Well, for starters, when you are talking, you're put on the spot. Example, someone asks you a question or your are angry... I found by writing, you can put all of your thoughts into words and the other can get a better vision of your woes. By talking, you're put on the spot and have to sometimes dig for the right words and phrases, so by writing you have more time to think first.
Works for me. Good Luck

Writing down your thoughts and ideas helps you solidify it, puting it down on paper require you to think things through and make head and tails before even scribble with the pen.

Writing also helps you to convey your speech better, since it helps you structure your sentences in your head before you say anything and making your speech better to understand.

Writing also helps better your writing, obviously. A good hand writing is becoming a rare trait as we turns more to keyboard and email. Althought it definitely gives other people a good impression of you.

Writing helps to clear your mind and is an excellent form of self expression when the words flow freely from the soul. It also helps expand your vocabulary and understanding of the English language.

You get to share your thoughts and ideas with others. Also, some people find it makes them feel better to get what they are feeling on paper.
