we are surrounded by water....our weather travels from west to east.....in the process of crossing the mighty Atlantic it picks up moisture from the surface and dumps it on us most of the time in rain....however, if we have a high pressure zone centred over the Uk this moisture hangs in the air and becomes full of water droplets...this known as humidity......but even though we don't like it, it is nothing compared to other places in the world...take places in southern USA for instance.....they have almost 100% humidity for two or three months in summer and that is not only very uncomfortable, but coupled with high temperatures, also very dangerous as it causes a high heat index ....not good for humans

Dry heat does not make much impact on the body, while humid atmosphere during the summer season makes one restless as the sweat of the body does not moisturise easily, there being enough humidity in the air and you can't tolerate unending sweatting of the body.

Our country is very densely populated. Other european countries have larger populations, but they're not as dense. Therefore we have a large amount of pollution being produced in a small area, which drives the humidity up and creates a very nasty, sticky, dirty heat.

It is the humidity, because we have so much rain throughout the year when we do get that odd day of hot sunshine it creats a very humid and sticky atmosphere. Not as bad as the US I must say though

The lack of Air conditioning. I was born in England and grew up in Scotland - now I live in Texas (my wife's from here). A/C is a luxury in the U.K. It gets hot here, but it never feels that bad cos I can turn on the A/C.

There are psychological reasons, with regard to your perceptions of British weather. Also, the humidity and the 'Atlantic Conveyer-Belt'... look it up

Is it because we have no air-con. generally over here? or maybe because it'd always so muggy here, I just came back from Bali and it was 34degrees, but it was easier because I wasn't sweltering in an office, but sitting by a pool, sipping lime juice...think I'll go and slit me wrists now!!!!!
