Now, I don't claim to be psychic, but i have had a few dreams related to this subject. Such as global warming. I live near cliffs (The Scarborough Bluffs as we call them) . I have dreamed of them being filled up to the top, due to polar ice caps melting. On top of that, the heat of the planet was unbearable, We were all walking, a "death march" of sorts. Hot, thirsty, desperate. We get to the water's edge, relieved, and begin to plunge our bodies in, and drink (even though the possibility of contamination is very likely). When we slowly begin to realize that the water is changing around us, it's beginning to boil... and then I woke up. I have dreamed of nuclear blasts, seeing the plumes in by head and suffocating from intense heat.
Whether or not this will be reality one day, I don't know. But what I do know is that we're on an inevitable path to destruction. We've taken advantage of this planet and all it has had to give us. Some things we were meant to partake of; crops, fresh water, animals. Some things we were not meant to partake of, such as fossil fuels, and the millions of lost species of the rainforest. So now the earth is fighting back. We have become a disease to this planet. And disease, hurricanes, drought, and famine (among other things) are the ony ways the earth has to rid itself of the parasites living on it's surface. Restoring the balance of what we take and give on this planet may save us, if we don't kill ourselves that is. Greed, war, and a "My country is better than your country" mentality will most certainly lead to eventual destruction of those countries. The radioactive effects will be felt worldwide. Those who may survive may do so by staying underground for centuries, who knows. All I do know is that without resolution we will be gone. And Very Soon...

The state of the world is in a shamble and it will never get fix until it is actually destroyed and get a new start. As many have said, we will meet the end through fire. No, the world wont follow suit because it's all going to go all at once. Hope, what is that? I hope I hit the lotto but it doesn't mean I will. There is no hope, we're well passed that now. We're all going to be extinct and the planet will be just that; a planet. Oh, except for the people who already paid there fare to move to Mars.

no one wants to answer because it's too deep and too depressing. it's pretty obvious to some of us that we are headed for total destruction unless something drastically changes. if you put this question under religion category you might get more answers, maybe not what you are looking for.
the only religious organization i've ever read about that has a positive outlook for the future of the human race is the Jehovah's Witnesses, and they say it will require divine intervention to keep us from destroying ourselves and the planet we live on.
it is grim and very sad that we can't help each other through life, and keep our beautiful planet healthy. everyone would have to have the same goal, and that will never happen, so i don't hold out alot of hope for our future.

I love this question. Sorry to hear the response has been lacking.
I'm a Carl Sagan disciple on this question. I think it is quite possible that we will annihilate ourselves before we learn to deal with our problems. The sad part is, we CAN fix most of them, but we can't get the powers that be on the same page with the rest of us. Look at global warming. All REAL scientists and most average people know that it's a problem. This is BASIC science, folks, not voodoo numbers and far out concepts. However, certain interest groups want to maintain their hold on the status quo and squeeze every last dime they can out of their livelihood before they have to make a change (hello, oil and auto manufacturing). Petroleum producers run the world right now, and the U.S. government won't stand up to it.
Similar problems exist with farming, healthcare, fresh water availability and power production.
The thing is, progress is being made OUTSIDE of the U.S. I hope this means change will come, even if it comes from outside and only eventually force the U.S. along with it.

Some of these answers are pure BS...blaming Bush? Um? Try answering the question people. Basically, I believe that we will destroy ourselves. There is too much corruption, and, with the ozone layer deteriorating as well as the enivronment slowly dying out (global warming, acid rain, and whatnot), it is only a matter of time becfore we destroy the planet we live on. Unless we build space colonies. But in a couple billion years, the sun will become a super-star, and the planet will be doomed then anyway....if we manage to somehow keep the planet intact until then.

I think our world is in pretty bad shape right now. So many people out of work, so much violence. Do I hold any hope for our survival? You bet...because without hope you have nothing. There's so much good in this world but it's overshadowed by all the evil. I think things will eventually get better, but it'll take time. Devastating visions? You're awful gloomy...have you tried looking on the bright side of things?

Well, it's been predicted by a few that there are only about 90 years left of existence on this earth. Look at the global warming issue. I truely believe in global warming. But not enough people are listening and trying to do anything about it. Everything is melting down & sinking into the ground. We'll either be swallowed up by water or be enveloped my hot molten lava. I think the "great earthquake" will happen in the middle of the US. There will be numerous disasters in a certain span of time. And it will daylight for all to see what we've done to ourselves.

You misspelled apocalypse. The world will continue until we blow it up or kill it in some other way. Then humanity will either find another planet on which to begin again, or it will reform on this earth if it remains. This is not the first time this has happened. Look at Atlantis and Lemuria. Those two episodes in ancient myth are probably based on reality. We evolve very slowly, but the human body is just a machine designed for us to use while we inhabit the earth. Don't forget that we are in bodies, we are not the bodies themselves.
