You can buy an external TV capture card for your laptop. This will allow you to record video from a variety of sources, such as your TV, S-video, and composite video. And it comes with software to do this. The quality of the video depends on a couple of things, such as your CPU speed, hard drive space, and what video and audio codecs you have. Codecs can be downloaded if you need to off a variety of websites.

I've been using the Happaque TV-USB card for many years and am very happy with it. Which one you ultimately choose is up to you, but there are a wide variety of choices that all do the same thing. Some however allow you to pause, while others don't. Some record in HD quality, others don't. But they all record in MPEG 1 or 2, which is a web standard.

Toshiba is the producer consisting of producer's of brand call HP, Philips, etc. i'm no longer optimistic about what you're asking, besides the undeniable fact that the perfect laptops i trust are HPs, she might want to are turning out to be one in all those.
