there are several types of headphone 1 in the ear/in the canal (you need to push/insert this type headphone in your ear hole/canal)2 ear buds(which use to cover hole of ear only) 3 OPEN small&big (small use to cover only some portion of ear big use to cover wholl ear 4 CLOSED/SEALED small&big (in closed/sealed type small round chamber like design open on ear side use to be there ) for each one s detail see below

1)as per my knowledge in the ear/canal are most popular and highest selling type in music lovers example sony ex 71/81(app $ 45),shure (app $ 80 and higher)etc.
2) earbuds use to give weakest perfomance music lovers do not using this type general public using this type due to price(app$ 1 to $ 10) and small size convinience
3) good quality open small type use to give good perfomance general public using this type due to price smallness and feature like non slip design (for many people earbud type use to slip from ear ) example sony g 54 lp(app $ 20) g 74 sl(app $ 40) sennheiser px 100(app $ 55) etc.
4) closed/sealed small is not popular type
open and closed/sealed big is popular among music lovers theoritically open type is more good but as in some cases of science where practice use to be different from theory in practice closed/sealed are selling more and popular they use to give more bass. example sony v 600(app $ 80) v 700(app $ 120) sennheiser hd 280 pro etc
open big example sony 605 lp(app $ 60), sa 1000(
app $ 160) ,sennheiser hd 555 hd 595 etc.
go for sony
