1) fill the 3L bucket
2) pour the 3L bucket into the 5L bucket
3) fill the 3L bucket
4) pour the 3L bucket into the 5L bucket until it's full (now you have 1L in the 3L bucket because the 5L bucket had 3L already and room for 2L more)
5) empty the 5L bucket
6) pour the 1L from the 3L bucket into the 5L bucket
7) fill the 3L bucket
8) add the 3L bucket's water to the 1L of water in the 5L bucket
9) mop up water

Yeah, let's be stupid and make this difficult. make lots of trips.
Here's the one-trip answer. Take both buckets to the well. Fill the 2ltr bucket. Pour it into the 3 ltr bucket. Refill the 2ltr bucket.
Now pour the contents of both buckets into the 5 ltr bucket. That's 2+2=4.

Fill the three liter bucket with water and put it inside the five liter bucket. Then fill the five liter bucket until it is full. Remove the three liter bucket and the remaining water in the five liter bucket will be two liters. Mark the five liter bucket where the two liters comes to and then empty your three liter bucket and pour the two liters into it. Fill your five liter bucket to the mark you just made and then pour the two liters from your three liter bucket and you will have four liters.

How do you fill up the 5L bucket with exactly 4L of water?
Easy...
First, fill-up the 3L bucket with water and transfer its contents to the 5L bucket.
3L bucket = 0 liters of water
5L bucket = 3 liters of water
Again, fill-up the 3L bucket and transfer the water to the 5L bucket until it is full. The remaining water in the smaller bucket is approximately 1 liter.
3L bucket = 1 liter of water
5L bucket = 5 liters of water
Empty the 5L bucket and pour in the contents of the 3L bucket.
3L bucket = 0 liters of water
5L bucket = 1 liter of water
Finally, fill-up the 3L bucket with water and transfer its contents to the 5L bucket.
3L bucket = 0 liters of water
5L bucket = 4 liters of water!!!
