I have only heard about it. Looked for them in books on pictures of roses - never ever seen a photograph. I wanted to ask for a photograph - but was afraid that that would prompt people to start asking for money.

Yep, my dad used to grow them. I forgot what they were named, but they were beautiful! They were a deep purplish black.

Oh yeah, something else dad (and mom) used to do was to take the cut roses and put food coloring in the water. That would add some neat effects to them. Worked well with carnations also.

There is no such thing yet as a black rose. It just appears to be so. It's actually a deep deep red, it's so deep that it appears to be black, almost velvety
