Love has many meanings in English, from something that gives a little pleasure ("I loved that movie") to something one would die for (patriotism, pairbonding). It can describe an intense feeling of affection, an emotion or an emotional state. In ordinary use, it usually refers to interpersonal love. Probably due to its large psychological relevance, love is one of the most common themes in art. The majority of modern movies have a love story and most pop music is about love.

In tennis scoring love means nothing, hence love-thirty is 0-30. A common (but unproven) explanation for the term "love" to signify a score of zero is that it originates from the French term "l'oeuf." Another explanation is based on the idea that to do something for love is to do something for nothing (zero).

This is an excerpt - check the source URL for the complete definition of love, according to Paul Barton:
"Love is not a necessity, but it is life’s greatest gift and luxury.
Love is caring, kind, and patient.
Love does not expect anything but love in return.
Love knows when to put pride to the side,
Because the greatest thing one can be proud of
Is a love that is shared.
Love is or should be unconditional.
Love is giving and selfless.
Love is therefore unselfish.
Love is not arrogant, or does not insist in its own way,
It is a celebration of what is right.
True love never ends."

I don't think there is a real answer to that question. But if I had to come close...I would say love is always wanting to be with that person. Love is doing things for others FIRST. Love is knowing no limits.

There are two basic kinds of Love. There is selfless love and selfish love. William Blake, the poet, said it quite well:
`Love seeketh not itself to please,
Nor for itself hath any care,
But for another gives its ease,
And builds a Heaven in Hell's despair.'
So sung a little Clod of Clay,
Trodden with the cattle's feet,
But a Pebble of the brook
Warbled out these metres meet:
`Love seeketh only Self to please,
To bind another to its delight,
Joys in another's loss of ease,
And builds a Hell in Heaven's despite.'
Love is ecstacy and despair. Love is eternal and fleeting.
Love is fragile and strong. It can give the heart wings to fly and can also tear it in pieces. It is often given freely and can cost you your soul. Love is all around us, but is very hard to find. Love is an enigma, but yet can be so simple. Like ourselves, Love has many faces, each one slightly different, but all basically the same. The three most powerful words we know are "I love you".

There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me is...
(L)isten: and Validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.
