Hate comes from being hurt, turning into anger, having it sooo long that it becomes hate. It's an emotion you feel when you cannot control, or even help a situation. Hate ususally starts with pain. Should you hate your father?, to me...you should feel sorry for him, because apparantly he is living what he has learned as a child. Years ago...we did not have the system that we have today, to help abused children, whether it is/was physical, or emotional, .Love your Father sweetie, Try to learn from his mistakes, and break the chain effect cycle that can and has went on for many generations.

Unfortunately there are many factors that insinuate their way into our lives that cause us to have strong negative feelings about others. If you watch TV at all you will see this. The TV has been programming us since its inception. We can sit and watch the most horrible things without batting an eye. Hating ones father however is different. If your father is abusive to your mother you have every right to be unhappy with what is going on and are probably feeling helpless to change things, that would explain your "hatred" of your father. Then you feel guilty when things are going OK. Maybe you should try talking to your mother, it's always easier if you can share your feelings with someone else.

It's ok to hate people, even your father. It's just an emtion produced by external factors. Like you say if circumstances were different then you would feel different, but never be sorry for the way you feel, if you repress hate and anger it just leads to depression.

I think you have hate and anger mixed up. You may be angry at him for his actions but your statement says you don't hate him. Hate is born of ignorance and fear.

It comes from jealousy and envy.
You want something. You can't have it so you hate the person who does have it.
