I think it means that a persons like to read. Some people like to watch TV, some people like to play sports, some people like to play cards, some people like to shop, some people like to read, etc. etc. etc. What does any activity a that person enjoys say about them? It is good to find a passion, not an addiction - but a passion, if reading is it, or sports, or card playing, so be it.

Vast is used to indicate something very great in size ... so vastly read would mean having read a great number of books. Erudite has to do with learning and scholarship so it may or may not apply. I don't think reading a great number of books makes you a geek or a nerd. Everyone has different reasons for doing things this person could have a thirst for knowledge or read fiction books purely for the escapism.

A bookworm,
a well-learned person,
a geek,
a nerd.
