True that, they are human. But this is a world class international tournament and requires and deserves world class performances. They are paid an obscene amount of money to do a job. If we regular folk were to perform our jobs with crucial mistakes as they have we would not have a job to return to. The highest standards are expected from our players and this can't happen without the referee's doing the same.

I agree that the referee should be given more credit. The average referee runs around 8 miles per game and should be treated with more respect. However, the game has to be played the way it's supposed to be. In this World Cup, the referees are missing several critical calls that could potentially be game changing. I enjoy a game without controversy. If a team loses fair and square, then you just have to admit defeat. However, if the referee seems to swing calls for one side, I just can't seem to take that. You can't miss calls such as handling inside the goalbox because that would result in a penalty kick.

The ref is human but some things are idiotic, like giving a player his 2nd yellow in the 60th minute then giving him his third in stoppage then kicking him out. Not to mention the best acting i've seen most of the year give me a break, the penalty italy got against australia, and the one france got against italy both are nuts

Stakes are high. If he understands that he is human, then he should take measures such as viewing instant video replays (cameras covering every angle these days) or consulting assistant ref especially when dubious decisions are likely. One such decision was the Penalty awarded to Italy against Australia right at the end. Video replay showed it was NOT a penalty.

Come-on this one is easy, we expect him to be perfect, we want him to see everything and not make bad calls. Remeber these things, plays, happen in an instant. These are judgement calls made in split seconds that need split second decissions. Just look at how the play back rule has changed football. Remember all the front page sports headlines.. It all goes back to BLAME THE REF. we don't blame him for being human, We blame him for not being super human. I vote we take super man, flash, steve austin (The bionic man), remember his zooming eye? and make them all refs.

I agree that the referees should be given more credit but they lose the respect when they make one way calls and give make up calls while everyone in the stadium knows that it's a make up call. Some refs are one sided though.

Yea i think so too the refs dont get enough credit i guess people have to have someone to blame! but then again they do have a huge responsability to make sure the game is fair!
