No, The final 3 years, Mariano has 122 sv, 9 Blown, Papelbon has 132 sv, and 17 Blown-And Rivera is 39 So no-He hasn't subplanted him. Rivera hasn't been the terrific in a pair years, you're able to make the argument he and Hoffman have been the terrific (in accordance with saves from ninety seven-05) yet Rivera would be remembered via fact the best nearer interior the postseason. As for immediately, ok-Rod is the terrific, observed via in no particular order-Nathan, Papelbon, Cordero, Jenks, Rivera, Papelbon could have 2 rings yet he's barely have been given one 40 sv. season, (a minimum of 8 have different) As cutting-edge as final year Rivera had a greater proper era, WHIP, and stored 39 (The 11th out of 12 in a row with 30+ SV) with a million blown keep, this year they the two have 19 saves, Pap has greater walks yet Mariano has a some distance better era, So extremely he hasn't dropped off in any respect, you need to be a sprint too severe on Papelbon. And via how, i'm a Yankee hater-yet you won't be able to brush aside Riveras accomplishments. Guitar Hero-extremely ok-rod-2.27 Papelbon-a million.80 4 the two have decrease occupation era's of direction they have not performed as long

I would take Rivera. He has a proven track record of phenomenal ability. He also knows the pressures of playoff and World Series atmosphere. Papelbon may be having an incredible year but who's to say he won't be a one-year-wonder? And what will happen in the post-season? Too many question marks for him at this point.

Rivera is better, now and is more of a sure thing for the future.....anyone remember Billy Koch, "super closer" of a few years ago....where is he now?? How about another young "stud" pitcher, Rich Ankiel.....now an outfielder after 1 super rookie season as a starter. You cannot compare the two, as there is no track record for Paplebon, as a matter of fact he was supposed to be their young starter and Craig Hansen was supposed to be the closer of the future. He does have nasty stuff, but go through the league a couple of times and see how nasty he looks then. As was stated earlier, Rivera has been through the league for 11 years, and he still rips bats in half with his cutter. Rivera is the best ever, end of story.

Between the two, I like Rivera for the track record, though Papelbon I think will eventually be a starter.

But I would take Bobby Jenks right now over both of them.

Papelbon. Rivera may have a good overall track record, but his track record against the Red Sox is awful.

this year and years going forward you would have to say Papelbon. Rivera is slowly going down. Papelbon is still improving.

When Papelbum puts in 11 years of service...winning 4 World Championships, then this question can be raised.

Get real. He doesn't even have a full year in yet and has never faced playoff pressure.
