I just found out about it for my 2006 corolla after calling the dealer:
1. Make sure your odometer is on odometer and NOT trip miliage or anything else. You can press the button that toggles this funtion until it gets to odometer reading.
2. Turn off your car
3. Press the odometer button (this is the button that toggles between your total miles and where you can measure how many miles you have gone in a trip) and hold on to it
4. Turn on the car (remeber to hold on to odometer toggle button)
5. The miliage willl show some dashs
6. Keep holding until the dashes go away
7. It will now turn off the maintanece light
Remeber, the light did come on for a reason. For me it was my 6 month manintance which I already did myself so I could turn off the light myself. But I don't know your situation so you might still need to go in.

It needs to go into the shop. Once the cause of the light's activation is determined, it will normally go off all by itself.
This indicates that there is something wrong with the emissions control system that must be repaired. You can temporarily reset it by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for 5 minutes or more.

Its all a computer thing. Sorry, but the car is going to have to go to a shop with the computer so it can be reset.

If it's on there is something wrong. Like an O2 sensor or something worse.

It is programmed to come on at a certain mileage or if something is actually wrong.
Take it in.
