There are both political and financial reason for not doing it.

Whilst the existing member states are ignoring their obligations to the stability pact rules, why should we prop up their currency?

There are two views: 1. Before Euro become stronger and 2. Actual international economic conext .

During the begining, UK need keep their economy until have more parity with Euro and of course, it was something new and Uk does not need it (until recent period, where all industries are chosing less expensive coutries to invest).

Now:
Mostly of the world petroleum have negotiation within those Markets: NYMEX from New York and International Petroleum Exchange (London) (IPE).

As it, there is many other links betwen it; Once UK change it to Euro, Euro would became stronger and dolar would become more weak within international Market.

USA are alive due the international market moving everything using Dolar as a currency. Once you do not use it anymore, you will have more money within the market and less people looking for it. What would bring down USA Economy (Highest Internal Deficit in the world) and we would face worst crisis than '29.

Doing it, US would have strong defeat witin their economy and everybody would come down.

I take it "we" means the UK? If so, we have not joined because British banks make so much money trading in foreign currencies outside the Euro zone, which they could not do if we were in the Euro.

Why should we give up our heritage, and identities to become yet another faceless cardboard cutout member of "Europe"?...We have lost all our car builders to europe, not to mention several other industries, and now even the european car manufacturers are slowly pulling back....WE ARE BRITISH,and I for one am proud of it
