Wow...my boyfriend and I were just talking about at lunch. He's in Buddhism, and I'm into something a little different, but similar. Happiness is freedom from strife and struggle. Is knowing who we really are, and that we aren't God after all (what a relief!). Knowing that I'm not in control, but a much greater Person (God) is, and that He loves me more than I could possibly ever imagine in a million years (that sounds "Christian" I know, but it actually has nothing to do with that), and that He just wants us to be happy. Knowing that we don't die, and that we do have choices we can make to elevate our consciousness so that we can transcend death. Anyway, so far, for me, that's what I'm working on.

Happiness according to Diana:

A feeling of contentment when all is right with the world. The air smells cleaner, food taste better and your heart is full of love for those around you. School or job seems good, friends fulfill your life and your goals and dreams are working for you.

Does Happiness last? It ebbs and flows, but like life itself, we are the ones in control, so only we can make ourselves happy....go forth and find it!

Happiness is highly circumstantial and therefore hugely dependent on external factors.being happy is a temporary feeling of satisfaction when things go your way and can be compared to temporary "high".
JOY on the other hand is better than happiness because it stems out of a deep seated assurance, hope and confidence that despite the circumstances or external factors, things will be o.k.
am sure you know people who "have it all" but are not happy, and people who are barely making it but always wearing a smile on their faces and hearts.

"happiness is a smile on the face based on the weather but joy is a smile from the heart despite the weather."

Happiness is what makes life seem wonderful. You get happiness from love and approval. Love is the best happiness, but it also has approval happiness there. Happiness is what brightens life and makes it less hard.

the definaition of happiness will vary from person to person - each having their own requirments for happiness - basically for me I have a strong need to be loved and have someone to take care of - to be needed - with that and a living situation that allows for some inner peace and I would be happy
