Brides carried a bunch of flower over their crutch to cover up the smell. It is still the tradition now to have the flowers, but thankfully personal hygiene has improved.

life was great we all smelt our natural body odours. why do we try to cover up who we realy are with stupid chemicals disguising how we smell. and ladies come on personally i'd rather see a ldy/girl without makeup you girls look so much healthier without it. and those who regularly sun bathe WHY when it's so harmful to the skin?
personally I prefer life 100% natural.
but thats just me.
so if you want to know what life was like before deodorant come around to mine and take a deep breath because unless i'm going out somewhere i don't use the stuff.
I only use it for the benefit of others.
annoying spending money on stupid things like deodorant for the benefit of others.
We all should be proud of who we are and not use thes foul chemicals. it's not good for us and it is no good for the environment either.

I think if you wash properly every day it wouldn't be too bad, but I think in ye olden days BD (before deodorant), people used to use talcum powder, and of course there has always been some kind of perfume going around since donkeys years ago - and since everyone used to probably smell the same, I don't suppose anyone noticed, its like if you eat garlic but your partner doesn't then you stink but if you both eat it, then you are fine.

Mum and Arrid were the first two 'under-arm deodorants' in the 1930's. Before then you changed your shirts and washed your armpits a couple of times a day in the summer.

Life was better beofe the deodrant becaus all deodrants are is a way of covering up nasty smells. The only reason people use deodrants is coz they b bothered to have a shower in da morning, so yeah.... life meant have been smeellier back then but at least hygiene was taken in to greater consideration.... so..... all those that say deodrants are good do not knwo what they are talking about..... and deodrants is an easy way of making money by selling really air.......

Well... I think that depends on hygene. There have always been herbs and flowers that smell nice... And the idea of what smells pleasant is very volatile - as sweat does cary information about the person across, like mood and truthfullness, it is possible that being able to smell it was important, and therefore liked.

People in the Tudor times probably only had a bath once a year, but I suppose they probably used soap, and perfume has been around for many many years, probably dating back to the Medieval times, where it wasn't liquid, but flowers, and herbs in a small bag inside people's dressings.
