I think both men and women equally want children but women are more aware that time is against them where many men can father children late in life. So men do not get themselves so worked up about having kids.

Thats not true because sometimes men want children more then women. First of all ever since girls were young it has been drummed into them (even in modern times) that they will grow up and have children. Especially when they start their periods, then people say now your body is getting ready to have children. Also their body is designed to want to have children with hormones and whatever telling them at a certain time they are ready to have children. But stuff has changed because people try to think of their careers and so don't want to have children. Also They want to have children before it becmes to late for them to do so. Unlike men who can still have children when they are pretty old. The menopause is a factor. Another thing is you can't generalise it to all women it's about personality as well some women might try to trap a man with a baby but you can't say that about all women.

Before children come about, I think so. Afterwards... maybe, but I am not so sure.
The "before" part is partly linked to the fact that child-bearing age is shorter than child-fathering age. Women feel the need to hurry. Men don't. So the desire isn't so strong.
The "after" part - once a person realizes it is their own flesh and blood, many men want their children very much indeed. And once they realize how much care a child takes, and how limiting it is, a woman does sometimes goes through some time when she is not exactly sure how much the desire is. However, mother's love for a child tends to be very great indeed.

Lol I soooooo want kids. I kniw they're going to be a major part of my future one way or another, even if via adoption, so my hubby will have to like and want children too. I don't think women want children more than men, just it's more socially acceptable for women to reguarly discuss their desire for children than men. This obviously creates the illusion of a gender-bias in this attitude.

There is a distinct difference in male and female biology. In almost all sexually reproducing animals (like us), the general rule is that females have an egg which is many times larger than the male's sperm. Due to the time and energetic investment it requires for a female to produce an egg (in humans its around 1 month for only 2 eggs, whereas males can produce millions of sperm in a day), females need to be much more choosy in selecting a good mate (no point wasting good eggs on a crap mate). Males, however, can mate with huge numbers of females indiscriminately, as sperm is relatively very cheap (in the amount of time and energy required to produce alot of it).
It is because of this difference in reproductive energy expenditure which drives the difference in male and female mating strategies. It is also responsible for females being 'maternal' and feeling a need to have offspring. Males only need to have a desire to mate in order to reproduce, but females need the desire to carry and care for offspring in order to successfully pass on her genes to the next generation.
Males can easily mate with a female and leave, but if a female were to give birth and abandon the offspring, it would die and a whole lot of energy will have been wasted.
Perhaps the introduction of contraception would have 'killed off' the gene that would cause women to want sex but not children, as these women would never pass on these genes to their offspring. But women who want children would have sex without contraception, thus passing on their 'broody' genes to the next generation of women.
This is why women have a strong urge to have children, and men have a strong urge to have sex. Combine the two and we have a successful recipe for reproduction.

It does happen quite often, as a woman's biological clock ticks faster and louder than a man's!!
Saying this, me and my boyfriend are both quite young, and I have a four year old son from a previous relationship, but despite this, we are both starting to think about having another child.
It is not something that I asked first, nor did he, we just mutually started talking about children, and so on from there...

I only want one kid. No more.
And I think a lot of women lie about not wanting children, because society has become so cynical nowadays, no one really trusts people to stay with them anymore. Although some people just have children to get child benefit, which is sick.

No its not always the woman that wants children.
I went mad for my first 2 children, but am happy with my 2 girls.
My boyfriend wants another child (think he wants a son) and as I said I am happy with the 2 I have.
As you can imagine it is causing alot of friction in our household.

I think women are more genetically programmed to want children from the point of view that they get broody when they see babies, but men are also programmed to want to continue their family line. I have three children with my husband, before we had the third one it was him who brought up the subject of another child.

Well I wouldn't go out with one guy because all he kept talking about was having kids. Yes...I expect I do want to have kids perhaps in my late twenties - but I know he's really eager to be a parent now... and I'm not - yet!!
