This is very definitely a dying art. I used to write handwritten letters quite often, as my family are somewhat scattered about the country (and globe), as are many of my friends. The Internet came along and changed all that, doubtless permanently.

For what it's worth, when I send an email or e-card (in place of a personal letter or paper card) I still put in the same time and effort and my writing style is unchanged. But no, it's just not the same and I'd be the last person to argue otherwise.

Handwritten letters and cards do have special meaning for me, and that's why on those rare occasions when I do write and post them, it is for someone I love a great deal. I'd not do it otherwise.

That said, I no longer save greeting cards as I once did (I'm still sentimental but I'm not a pack-rat), though I do still save handwritten letters if they hold special meaning for me (love letters, for example).

In closing, I wonder if handwriting itself now suffers universally (I know mine does) because of our reliance on keyboards to write anything at all. I'm no Luddite but I always lament the loss of traditions and practices once considered essential to our species. I'm afraid personal, handwritten letters are going the way of the dodo. I only wish it were not so.

Snail mail, each day. the reason being that digital mail is very accessible, besides the undeniable fact that it is also change into somewhat undemanding to entice close that letters and playing cards are despatched by utilizing e-reminder, and to get carry of something that someone has to flow to the problem of procuring for, writing on, putting a stamp on, and strolling or utilizing to a mail-field makes their message a lot exceptional.

Yes I do write letters. but only on special occasions. i send a hand written letter along with a card or a flower to my friends who are away on their birthdays or on special occasions. I have stored all the letters i recieved since my childhood. these days no one writes me on paper. I am a software engineer, so all my friends and collegues are in this same profession and they feel writing on paper is outdated.

before e-mail, I had written just a handfull of written letters in my life, Now i find that I contact people much more than i ever did before, so for me it is good, except that, I still never write to people that don't have access to a computer. I still ocasionaly receive written letters from certain people, and i do enjoy them, but no more, really, than getting an e-mail from someone.I write things a lot more now, with a computer (songs, poems, etc.)than I ever did without one, so it has helped me become more of a writer than without a computer.

I write to an elderly aunt who lives in California. I live in Ohio. For more than 10 years we have traded letters monthly, keeping each other informed of our lives. It is a precious commodity. To have something that someone took the time to write and mail. I also have cards and letters saved from my parent's for sentimental reasons. When they are gone, it's something they once touched that will keep me close to them.
