I live in Switzerland and I can tell you that continental Europe is wonderful. It is very easy to travel around and I am sure his host family will be sure he has a great experience here. I now hope that Germany advances in The World Cup games as the atmosphere over here is absolutely electric! (I didn't really care one way or another before, but now I will be thinking of your son with you.) I'm not really answering your question but I feel for you, missing your son and I know that he will have a great experience. He'll be back before you know it.

I am not from Böblingen, but like the other answerers before me I would also say that your son is probably having a great time over there with lots of things to see and do.
If you are interested to see Böblingen yourself, you could look at these pages, which have webcams of the place:
http://www.levigo.de/bbcam/
http://boeblingen.homelinux.org/
Unfortunately the information available on Böblingen is all in German... So I haven't got any links there...

As a mom who has been through something similar, I suggest you find something to do while he's gone to keep yourself busy. The other thing you can do is Google Boblingen, Germany and see what shows up. Then go out with the Girls and relax, you can even invite your friends over for a slumber party, or a super champaign breakfast. Go to the big city on a 3 day shopping spree or visit relatives. Look for your own adventure, so you have something to talk about when he gets back. Have fun and enjoy freedom! :)

No, really - back off. This is your son's experience - allow him to come back with his stories of what he did and what he saw. Can't you just be proud of him, why do you have to interfere with his experience - how disappointing to think you will welcome him home with questions of 'yes, but did you do this.... you didn't? but the stranger on the internet said...."
Please, he's safe and happy and excited in his first own adventure.
