i am doing a presentation for an interview for a job as "Befriending Support Worker". I know that this is a fairly new concept - i was wondering if anyone knew anything about what befriending is and how it works.

Befriending is when you become friends with another person, so that aspect is obviously not new. I assume that befriending, in the context you are referring to, is for those people who are isolated (due to illness or other disability). The results of befriending can be significant on both sides of the friendship, including providing new directions for one or both parties, increased self esteem and self confidence. Bottom line is that a job like you are interviewing for can be very challenging and yet very rewarding as well

The concept is not-so-new after all, befriending is about becoming a support for some one who needs u but its not like friendship where u'll get emotionally attached like u do with ur friend & u dont confide in each other deeply; in befriending u dont give out ur personal info such as cell fone no, ur address etc whereas u do with a friend.
Wat u r required is that u become a stable figure in their life but without all the emotional investment, u become a good listener, compassionate because the kind of ppl u'll be supporting they might not have had the pleasure of knowing 'normal' & stable relationships with ppl.

befriending means makin friends with..... so I'm guessing that you are making friends with a support worker

Make friend of, in the context of your job I would take It to mean approachable, easy to get on with.

I wouldn't care if she was a prostitute, just as long as we had some of the same interests, maybe if she liked the same type of music. Shawn
