yes it is true that at the time of leaving India, they took Kohinoor with them. So it is the Kohinoor that is ours and not the crown. Our govt has tried once to bring it back (Some 3 or 4 years back), but failed. but still hopes are alive. In coming years, it will be back definitely. Jai Hind.

Queen Victoria was already Dead when India became Independent.
King George VI (the Father of Queen Elizabeth II) was the last Emperor of India and after India's Independence they never Crowned an Emperor again but if they ever decided to become a Monarchy then the Crown certainly could be returned to India if it hasn't been by now.

India never had the 'crown jewels' as you call them. They did have some spectacular gems, which they GAVE to the Queen, and which were mounted in some of the symbols of royalty used by the monarchy. That happened long before India became independent. Those items, along with others of historical significance, are PART of what is now referred to as the crown jewels, and they belong to the ruling monarch, not to any one individual. Queen Elizabeth II may use them only in connection with her royal duties. She may not knock them apart and sell them, give them to her friends, raffle them off to provide a new roof for the castle or anything else of a personal nature, because they are not hers, they belong to the nation, and to the figurehead known as the monarchy.

It's not the queen who stole it. If ever your statements were true, she's just an accessory to the crime. To steal is to mastermind, and physically execute the act.
