I need to get a business license for sure.. but what else. I am a full time college student and have had to quit work for medical reasons. I'd like to groom and litter train dogs.

Hi In answer to your question, you will need to get a Federal Employer tax number, you will need to get a business license if you want to register your business as a Limited Liability Company, or incorporate your business. If You are going to start your business as a sole proprietorship then you will need just a servant's license since your business will be providing a service and not selling tangible items. If you would like more help email at www.paralgl4u@aol.com

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* The Business Guide to Pet Grooming by Sam Kohl
* From Problems to Profits: The Madson Management System for Pet Grooming Businesses by Madeline Bright Ogle

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!
