Very difficult. Check out the news items from the past. That will give you some idea of where there have been riots and that sort of thing! I wouldn't live in those areas. Where I live is nice. But I only have to travel 3 miles and there are 14 and 15 year old girls on the streets working as hookers. It can be that close from a good neighbourhood to a bad one. Out in the suburbs, reasonably close to a motorway, is your best bet. You tend to get low crime, better education and a higher socio-economic group. But obviously in those areas forget social housing and that sort of thing. My brother lives in North Staffordshire, very nice - but used to bring his kids to where I live to use our leisure centre. They have Conservative councils and they're too mean to build leisure centres for kids. Leisure centres are swimming baths with a few extras.... So basically, if you have the cash, out in the English Countryside close to the M6 or M5. You have the added bonus of the excitement of dicing with death on the M6 if you live in Staffordshire.

I don't know the area but I'd say any small town or village, but not next to a pub or any public amenity as you'll have people shouting in the street at 4am if you're not careful. Stay off the main roads and there should be less crime by opportunists from the cities.

There are loads of good places depending on your choice of lifestyle. Area's that have undergone the regeneration processes are a great place to start as things can only get better! There are loads of "Guide Neighbourhood" areas that are doing the best for their community - my advise would be to live in an area that that's an interest in it's community (whether or not you want to get involved) have a look at the local Guide neighbourhood areas in the WM on www.togetherwecan.info/guide_neighbourhoods.html - hope this helps & Good Luck

Moseley Village - Birmingham. It is just outside the city centre, has a great community feel to it. Excellent restaurants and pubs. beautiful parks within walking distance and reasonable local shopping facilities. I lived there for 7 years and enjoyed it thoroughly. If I move back to the UK it will be to Moseley.

I live in Warwickshire, just outside of Coventry, it's a lovely place, I'm not going to say my home town on here, but it is all things you've said. :)

I do know a lot of Coventry isn't very nice to live in, but there are nice bits of it, and Birmingham has got nice places to live, but it's really expensive to buy a property there.

I love Wolverhampton. They have a great park, and a good foot ball team and Birmingham is just up the road
