Do you speak English in England?" or "Why dont England send troops to eye-rack?" Please help!!!! I feel like I just arrived on Mars!

I'm sorry for that, I can only say that it's not everyone, but yes, many many of us are, but I'm sure you'll find a certain proportion of ignorance any where you go. I'm half Swedish and when we moved to the US I was also subjected to these ridiculous questions: "hey, speak some sweden to me" I heard a few times, or "don't they make good watches and chocolate in Switzerland?" Which is infact very funny now because my wife is Swiss and the most absurd question anyone has ever asked might possibly have been when we were going into a club and my wife showed her Swiss passport as ID and the girl at the door asked: "don't you have an american passport?" sure honey, they hand them out to every one, you just have to ask. Sorry, keep your chin up, you'll meet some interesting people (unless you live in the southeast, then I'm sorrry)

LOL! Where did you move to? I really dont know anyone that dumb in all honesty.

Seriously though, America is like several differant countries with lots of cultures. If you took a Harvard graduate from New York City and stuck him in Mississippi, he will get culture shock and perhaps feel the same way you do.

I'm not ignorant to foreign Cultures, but I do reject the proselytising of being subservient to foreign cultures. Does this make sense?
I like to exercise my Free Will.

I wish you'd tell those people you encounter - the way things really are in the English dialect. I get real tired of the little basturds correcting me, saying what is proper English, and what ain't. I just tell 'em, I'll say what I want> My freedom of choice.

Damn Ego Trips

You could tell 'em to F'off. I've done that a few times. Or I just ignore them.

You're joking right? I'm American living in England, and I'm getting all of the questions you just mentioned plus some. It has me wanting to return home just because I'm kind of sick of hearing it.
No one wants to live here it seems and always asking me what the hell I'm doing here.
They say they would rather be in the US then to live in England.

Best advice I can give, Go home, if you don't like it.

A lot of americans are. A lot of them are also very smart and informed. When I come across some of the former category, I take a tolerant view, explain to them and move on in life.

As with all ppl in the all the world. There are dumb ones and there are smart ones. Since you are from a foreign country you should have realized this! Not all Americans are dumb, just like not all British ppl have bad teeth, or adore tea.

I would have to agree that many are. Sometimes i get the feeling that a person can only comprehend how diverse the world's cultures are if you have been inside and outside of America.

sure, notwithstanding this is no longer out of ego. something else of the international is beginning to talk English, so we are seeing a lot less of a favor to study overseas languages. also, maximum international places are bordered by international places with diverse languages and cultures, the position we in straight forward words have mexico.

I'm sorry to say that yes, I think most Americans are ignorant of foreign cultures. Unfortunately, you are going to have to be more patient when meeting people, but hopefully you will find people who are not so ignorant.

Haha..youre not one on that experience. We Asians feel the same way too..I'm just wondering, they're claiming they have good schools, civilized people, all the resources, .and yet it does not reflect on their people. In our country, our school are not that good, we seldon have connections to internet and cable TV, but we know almost all the cultures of other country.
