Not necessarily -- but it depends on other things. My undergraduate GPA was 3.2 -- but it was mainly because of a really bad Freshman year. If I threw it out, I had a 3.5 for the other three years. I also had better grades in my major than overall. I got into some really good schools with that & did well in graduate school.

If you have similar circumstances (did much better in your major, improved as time goes on) point that out in your cover letter.

Good luck.

Well, it depends on what school you want to go to and what kind of Ph.D you want to get. I recommend looking at a few schools that offer the program that you are looking for and see if you meet their admission requirements. If you can do that, it will make it easier for you to figure it out. Also, go to a college career center and based on what Ph.D program you want to get into, there are many books out there with a list of colleges with the particular program that fits your need with all it's admission requirements.

Over all that is a good GPA.

Not really. Generally Colleges look for GPA's of 3.0 or above. Good Job!

No, but that ultimately depends on the Phd program you want to get into. Your work experience and thesis are equally important.
