Met a guy tonight & as we talked I was sure he was a rightwing bigot republican. He met all the stereotypes.. drinking, saying he was proud to be a redneck, rough around the edges, tough guy image, tattoos etc..
Blew my mind when I finally brought it up and he said, "I'm a democrat. I'm a union man."
I decided to inquire more & he impressed me completely. He went on to say how he was a Gulf War veteran & he believed in minding his own business when it comes to what other ppl do. He talked about Bush and the war in a way that sounded just .. confused at what we are doing.
Got to admit that I DO stereotype. The more this guy talked, he was like.. this really tough man but very deep in his beliefs of the right to others. He even spoke in like a John Wayne manner... u know blunt and in the abstract tough way.
All I could think about was two things, "I've fallen for the stereotyping too" and "Geez I wish these type of southern men would come out of the woodwork"
